"Unimpressed With Vegas"

Seriously. Who goes to Las Vegas and leaves saying they are "unimpressed"?

Well, this guy, for one:

"I've gotten puzzled looks from friends regarding my assessment of Vegas. I know I touched on it in my previous posts, but other than the WSOP and being at the Rio where the magic happens, Vegas did not impress me at all. Is this because I live in the state with the biggest casinos in the world? Possibly. Is it because I wish Alissa could have been there with me? Absolutely. I will probably return to Vegas, but it would ONLY be to play in another WSOP event."

In addition, my old friend from law school I was fortunate to get to see last month at the Venetian for her first trip ever out to Vegas also left town with a very negative feeling. She texted me that she was actually "feeling sick" from all the lights and the crowds on a Saturday night in the desert summer and ended up heading to bed early.

What exactly is going on here?

And to 1queensup1, for the record, no it is not because you live near the largest casinos in the world. I've been to Foxwoods and Mohegan a hundred times, and to even try to compare those stinkholes to a trip out to Las Vegas is just plain silly. Similar response with respect to AC, which I would argue is actually a closer comparison to Vegas but still falls laughably short when it comes right down to it.

And no, I also doubt that your wife or significant other was not there with you would lead to what you characterize as being "not impressed at all" with the city. I mean, sure that could impact your ability to have the best possible time, and maybe you might have spent more time than you expected thinking about your friends or family back home, but that shouldn't be the thing that leads to you being "not impressed at all" with the entire city, should it?

I mean, I can understand someone saying they thought Vegas was too mouch glamor, too much glitz. Too cheesy I can live with. Too much sluttery and sex (if you're a chick) I can even get down with. Too much gambling, I suppose if you are a massive dorque. But just generally not being "impressed" with Las Vegas?

I just don't get it.

The first time I went to Vegas, my buddy spent most of the trip after day 1 bitching about it. He hated the fake buildings, the fake people, the fake everything. The fact he wasn't a gambler probably didn't help. The only reason he was there was because he was the best man of the groom whose bachelor party it was.

Me? I've loved it every time. Each time that plane lands, I get giddy. By the end of the weekend, I want nothing more than to get back on the plane and get home. Vegas is a drain, and the artificiality of it all is a lot to deal with. I like my buildings to be on multiple streets.

But unimpressed? It's hard not to be amazed by the sheer scale and BALLS of the whole thing.

That's basically my point 100%, Astin, perhaps stated more eloquently than I did. Not loving Vegas, that I can totally see (though it is not a feeling I share, I am always happy to come home every time another trip comes to an end). But being "unimpressed" with it? I am at a total loss with that.

I was unimpressed by Vegas for a few hours, but it turned out to be Akron.

Ah I'll get around to posting a clarification sometime I guess.

I went for the poker, and I played the poker, but once that was done I couldn't think of a good reason to stay.

I dunno, like I said I guess Ill get around to posting a clarification on my stance, perhaps unimpressed was the wrong word to use.

Queens -- not critiquing you, just trying to understand. Love to read a followup post if you got one.

Vegas is exactly what they market it as... A playground.

AS far as that goes... Nothing compares.

I love the "balls" reference from Astin. Almost perfect!

Halladay in 2 days :)

I usually start getting excited about Vegas long before I get there. Unimpressed does not compute, for me. But, to each his own. Personally, I can't wait to get back there.

Perhaps "unimpressed" was an incorrect word choice as was mentioned. I really enjoyed my recent outing to Las Vegas with the wife. Other than the poker, we really enjoyed our resort, the pool, the shows plus there were several things we didn't get to do like visit the old part of downtown or see the sites right outside of Las Vegas. Yes, it is fake (just side a few streets outside the facade) but it is a playground with so many activities.
